Biography

Sung-Phil is an associate professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). His major research focuses on developing a brain-computer interface (BCI) in humans. Before joining in UNIST, he worked as an assistant professor (research) at Korea University from 2009 to 2013, conducting several research projects related to BCIs. Dr. Kim earned his Ph.D and M.S. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida in 2005, working in the Computational NeuroEngineering Laboratory supervised by Dr. Jose C. Principe. Then, he worked in the neural interface research team as a postdoctoral researcher at Brown University for the development of intracortical BCIs in humans with tetraplegia. Dr. Kim received the B.S. degree from the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University in 1994.
